Compass of God

I promised I would return to blogging once Compass of God was written, submitted to the publisher, edited, and sent off to the printer. All that's done and I'm happy to report that I'm sticking my toes back into blogging waters and testing the temperature. Its been a while. How have you been?

You can check out Compass of God at Deseret Book Online (there's even a review written by the first reader of the novel, Anita Worthen), or you can wait until it appears on bookstore shevles sometime later in October to have a look.

I'm busy writing volume 6, Land of Promise. I hope that doesn't confuse you. The full title: The Promised Land Series, Volume 6: Land of Promise, sounds like I'm stuttering. I'm not. There's a difference between a Promised Land and a Land of Promise, and I'm hoping to make that one of the major themes in Land of Promise which, incidentally, opens in the New World. Shocked? Did you ever think we'd actually get to the Americas in this series? Its a period of ancient history I've been itching to write about for over a decade. Hopefully you've been itching to read about it too. I'm almost "giddy" that years of ancient American research is finally coming out on the pages. Don't worry. I won't bore you with it. It will just operate in the background (and a little foreground) in support of the actors who people this series about the keystone of our faith--the Book of Mormon.

Hope you enjoy volume five. The managing editor at the publishing house, after reading Compass of God for the first time, said, "David, you really should write more romance novels." You'll understand what she meant when you get your hands on a copy. Let me know if you have a chance to read Compass of God. I'd enjoy reading your review. And stop in here at the blog from time to time. I plan on being a regular.

Its good to be back.

Glad to hear you are working on vol 6. My grandparents and I are amazed and excited that they will make it to the Promised Land.

I'm glad to hear you are going to be blogging again Dave. I've fallen behind on your books but only because my focus on reading does not involve novels at this time. Yours will fit well enough with my reading I think though so I am excited to pick up reading again.

I have been waiting anxiously for the next book in the Promised Land Series. Vol 5 is expected to arrive shortly. So excited to know that you have started on Vol 6. I have thoroughly enjoyed your books.

Always knew there were talented people in Lethbridge (my home town too).

HI Papergirl:

We must be kindred Albertan spirits. But now you're living on a farm? And in Ontario? Please say there is indoor plumbing.

Thanks for reading. Please post a review so I know what you enjoyed (or didn't).

Merry Christmas!

Hi Mike:

How are you doing? Selling any fish lately. Ha. Remember the good old days. What fun. Where are you and your family living these days. Last I saw you was in Orem. Hope all is well.

Merry Christmas!

Is Volume 6 going to be the last book in the Promised Land series? Will it end when they get to the Americas?

David G. Woolley said...

Hi Heather:

Volume Six will likely be the third to last in the series. It opens in the New World, with some scenes bringing the Old World characters to the New World. Two more volumes will follow volume six. Possible three. So plan on a volume seven, eight, and possibly nine, depending on how much ground we're able to cover in volumes seven and eight. We know how the story ends, we're just not sure if we can get there in eight volumes or if it will take nine.

Thanks for asking. Hope you have enjoyed things so far.

Good luck with your teaching Geography and History!

I have read all of your books--just finished number 5. All are outstanding! You are an excellent story teller, and I hope that story number 6 is on its way. Thank you for sharing your gift.

Hi Nancy:

Thanks so much for your comment. I'm so happy that you have enjoyed the story and the history. That really makes me happy. Please feel free to stop back often, make comments, ask question, etc.

All the best,

David, you can't end with volume 9. Don't you know that odd numbers are bad luck? So that does it, there has to be an even 10. Besides, 10 fits better on the shelf than 8 or 9.

I just finished Compass of God. I have read all 5 books in the series in the past 2 months and I LOVED every one of them. When can I look forward to volume 6???

Alright. I finished the volume 5 and literally thought it was the end since that's all they had at the library! But I just couldn't grasp that that was how it all ended.

Loooove the books. Finished all volumes in a month. Id like to take Zadock and ring his neck!

I did feel however that in the last volume there wasn't as much opposition. For example, jonathan was able to leave the city quite easily. Or Ruth and the children escaped Daniel easily. I don't know if that makes sense.

However, on the one hand, I was happy because they did escape without much trouble! But I did miss the mystery and excitement.

But I do so very much love the series! I eagerly await for the next book! ;)

Covid19 brought me to reading this series. Did the series never get finished? It took me weeks to find volume 4. Please tell me it doesn’t end at vol 5!
